Danielle's Vision for WMU
Students are the driving force in our community
- We have the ability to make any type of change we desire
- Students can make a statement that we are unified no matter what our differences are
- We need to take a stand on issues and injustices in our community and then lead as role models in the Greater Kalamazoo community
Accessibility on Campus
- We are top in the nation on accessibility to students with visual impairments
- There needs to be a better means of getting around campus for students with physical disabilities
- We can raise awareness on campus about the diverse needs of our peers in order to better educate ourselves on what we can do to help
WMU and the Environment
- WMU has been improving in its practices, but there is still much to do
- We need greater access to recylce bins and education on what can be recycled
- Students can make sure to use flourescent bulbs instead of incandescents
- We can work on a better partnership with Metro Transit to help students save gas
- WMU can set the bar for the rest of the community on how to be environmentally friendly
Bronco Pride
- We have so much to be proud of at Western Michigan University
- I will continue to further our pride initiatives
- We can bring the athletic community and community organizations together to work on a campus initiative where all students have the same shirt to wear to sporting events
International Students are a huge asset to WMU
- We are a very diverse institute with over 1,000 international students
- I will push for programs that allow international students to become aware of organizations on campus, in the hope of helping them become acclimated faster
- We can set up an email system with international students before they arrive so they have already made a contact here
Bringing together the students of Western Michigan University
- We have over 250 Registered Student Organizations
- I would like to help set up an initiative where student organizations can become more aware of each other in order that they may support one another
- One way to get students involved is to initiate a spot on the GoWMU website for a calendar of events for students on campus
Increasing the SAF
- The Student Assessment Fee (SAF) is a very minor portion of what we pay to WMU
- If we increase the SAF, there will be more opportunities for students to put on high quality events
- This minor increase in the SAF could help bring more students together for a greater number of events on campus, as well as to collaborate when putting on events
Continuing the communication between the Administration and the Students
- Great strides have been made this past year by our administration and Dr. Dunn has been very active in the student community
- The President of the WSA can have a meeting once a month with students on the various committees with administration to make everyone aware of what's going on with campus
- The Western Herald could have a section with information updates dealing with changes on campus such as new construction spots
- We can set up more ways for students to get to know the Deans of their Colleges such as "Dinner with the Deans" in order for students to feel more comfortable talking to them about any concerns
Bringing together Western Michigan University and the Greater Kalamazoo Community
- We are a huge asset and driving force in our community
- The Greater Kalamazoo Community has a lot to offer the students of WMU
- We need to have a strong relationship with different organizations in the community
- We can have a bigger presence in our community by pushing for WMU apparel to be sold in various stores
- I wil encourage WMU students to become more involved in community events by making sure they are aware of the things going on in the community
- We can make sure that Kalamazoo and surrounding areas know what a life changing educational establishment we belong to
